Expert Hires Boost Clinical Negligence Team at Slater and Gordon

Expert Hires Boost Clinical Negligence Team at Slater and Gordon

Law firm Slater and Gordon continues to grow its clinical negligence offering with three impressive new hires.

Madeline Seibert, Maria Repanos and Helen Barry bring together more than 50 years’ experience acting for clients who have lost loved ones or been left with life-changing injuries as a result of medical mistakes.

The trio of talent will strengthen the firm’s specialist teams at flagship offices in London, Manchester and Liverpool.

Madeline, described as a “colossus in the field” by the Legal 500 – a “who’s who” for the industry – joins the firm as technical director of clinical negligence after more than 18 years, the last 10 as partner at Attwaters Jameson Hill.

Career highlights include multi-million-pound settlements for clients left needing round-the-clock care after suffering serious injuries at birth.

Outside of work, Madeline volunteered for several years as a trustee of Harlow Citizens’ Advice Bureau and for Action Against Medical Accidents (AvMA) where she is also a panel member.

Maria, who joins from Fletchers Solicitors, has a master’s degree in medical law and also studied bioethics before specialising in clinical negligence. She heads up one of two expert teams in Manchester dealing with catastrophic injury cases including delays in diagnosis, amputations, spinal and birth injuries and is also a trustee of Supportability, formally Stockport Cerebral Palsy Society.

Liverpudlian Helen has handled a number of high-profile cases over more than three decades specialising in the field. She was one of the first lawyers to bring a claim for surrogacy expenses after her client’s womb was removed as a result of negligence and also represented some of the 500 patients recalled after their cervical smear results were misread in a 1980s scandal on Merseyside.

Helen, who was inspired to become a lawyer by her cousin – a parliamentary draftsman mentioned in Hansard – worked for Simpson Millar prior to joining Slater and Gordon and has also spent several years as a panel member of charities Headway and the Spinal Injuries Association.

Managing director of personal injury at Slater and Gordon, Matthew Jarvis, said he was proud to welcome the industry heavyweights on board.

He added: “Through our clinical negligence work we often see people at their very lowest who are struggling to deal with loss or life-changing injuries through no fault of their own. The fantastic results we continue to achieve for our clients, helping them to access the right support both physically and emotionally, is testament to the talented team we already have in place.

“Madeline, Maria and Helen bring with them a wealth of experience which will strengthen and enhance the service we offer to clients affected by these catastrophic events.

“Their reputation within the industry speaks for itself and is why we are so immensely pleased and proud to welcome them to Slater and Gordon”.
